TripIt Alternative: For the Trip You Have Not Booked Yet

TripIt has been around longer than most of the phones it runs on, and it still does one thing nobody else bothers to do well. Forward it every confirmation email you get and it turns the pile into a clean, day-by-day timeline. Flight, hotel, car, dinner, in order, with the confirmation codes where you need them.

If that is your problem, you do not need an alternative. Here is how to tell.

Where TripIt is better than us

The inbox. TripIt reads confirmations straight out of your email. Dreamfare reads confirmations you paste or upload. That is a real difference if you book forty things a year.

The airport. TripIt Pro, $49 a year at the time of writing, watches your flights in real time. Gate changes, delays, cancellations, a seat tracker, fare monitoring on flights you already bought, terminal reminders. Dreamfare can show you scheduled times for a flight number on a date. It does not send you a push when the gate moves.

Frequent flyers. If you are in a different city every week, Pro earns its fee and this page is not for you.

What TripIt is not

It is not a planner, and it never claimed to be.

TripIt starts the moment you have booked. Everything before that, which is most of a trip, is not its business. The video you saved of a market in Palermo. The tip from a stranger about going before nine. Which neighbourhood to sleep in, which of the four days is the slow one, whether the group can agree on the Tuesday boat. None of it has anywhere to go.

So the itinerary it builds is a list of things you paid for, with nothing in between. A 14:00 check-in and a 20:00 dinner reservation, and the six hours between them belong to you and Google Maps.

Why people go looking anyway

Usually one of three reasons.

They want the planning, not just the record of it. They want the day to contain the places they are going, not only the ones with a confirmation number. Or they want to plan with the people they are travelling with, in something that is not a spreadsheet and a read-only share link.

Plan first, then let the bookings join

Dreamfare starts at the other end of the trip.

Share a video into it, from TikTok, Instagram, YouTube or Reddit, and the places come out with their real locations. The advice with no place in it is kept as a tip for that city. Paste a list or a friend's notes and the same thing happens. Fold a trip and every stop is a real venue with its hours, the gaps between stops are measured, and your flight times fence the first and last day.

Then the confirmations arrive, and this is the part that should feel familiar.

Paste the whole confirmation email into the trip, or upload the PDF or a screenshot. The amount is kept in the currency you actually paid. If nothing in the plan matches, you pick where it belongs.

Your confirmations end up inside the days, next to the places between them, rather than in a separate timeline that only knows about money.

The group part

Invite the crew and the trip gets a chat that lives inside it. Ask the planner a question in that chat and it answers in the room. Vote on stops. Keep your packing list and notes to yourself or share them, on the same trip.

The end of the plan

When it is time to pay, the trip carries on into stays, flights, activities, rail and eSIM with your dates, your airport and your home currency already filled in. It hands you to the partner to pay rather than taking the card itself. Then the confirmation comes back in, and the loop closes.
