Trip Planning Apps Compared: Where Each One Drops You

A trip has four moments. You see somewhere and want to go. You save it. Eventually you turn the pile into days. Then you pay for it.

Almost every travel app you can download owns exactly one of those moments, and hands you back to yourself at the edge of it.

That is the actual problem with trip planning in 2026. Not that the tools are bad. Most of them are good. It is that the trip has to survive four apps, and it never does, because nothing you did in the first one is still there by the fourth.

Pulling places out of a video is table stakes now

Two years ago this was the hard part. Share a TikTok, get the restaurant. It felt like magic.

It is not a moat anymore. Plotline, Stasht, Triply, DocentPro and Rhyme all do it, several of them well. Plotline in particular has a clean map and reads the caption, the on-screen text and the audio. If all you want is your saves on a map, it is a good app and you should try it.

Dreamfare does the same thing, from TikTok, Instagram, YouTube and Reddit. We are not going to pretend that is the differentiator. It is the price of entry.

The interesting question is what happens to that place after it lands.

The half of the video that has no pin in it

Watch what a travel video actually gives you. Some name five restaurants. Plenty name none at all.

Someone talks for ninety seconds about how the airport transfer is a scam and the metro takes twelve minutes. Go to the market before nine or you are queuing for an hour. Skip the rooftop, the terrace downstairs has the same view and half the bill. Book the Thursday, never the Saturday.

There is nothing to pin there. No venue, no coordinates, nothing an extractor can hold. Most of these apps will save the creator's tip attached to a place, which is genuinely useful, but a tip attached to a pin dies when the video never named one. That video is worth nothing to them, so it is dropped.

Dreamfare keeps it as a tip in its own right, tagged to the city rather than to a venue. It comes back when you plan a trip there, months later, and it reaches both planning paths, whether you build the trip slowly or fold it in one go.

Which matters because the advice was always the valuable half. Anyone can find a restaurant. Knowing to go at opening and ask for the corner table is the part you cannot google.

Saving is not planning

Here is where most of the map apps stop, and it is a real stop, not a small one.

You end up with a beautiful map of ninety pins across four countries. It is a lovely object. It is not a trip. Nothing tells you which four of those pins belong in Tuesday, whether the market is even open when you arrive, or that you have quietly planned dinner across town from where you are sleeping.

And on the other side of the category, the AI planners have the opposite problem. Layla and Mindtrip write genuinely good itineraries. But they start from your sentence. Type "5 days in Lisbon" and the model has to guess your budget, your pace, whether you have been before, who you are with and where you are flying from. It cannot, so it plays the odds and returns the most popular answer available. That is why every AI itinerary reads like every other AI itinerary. They are built for the average traveler and nobody is the average traveler.

Dreamfare plans from the pile instead of from the prompt. Every import you have ever done is sitting in the input:

• The places you saved, and exactly where they are
• The advice from videos that named no place at all, matched to the city you are going to
• The trips you liked and bookmarked from other travelers
• What you have been searching for
• Where you fly from, and the currency you actually spend
• Durable things you told it in chat, which you can read as plain sentences in your profile and delete one by one

The difference shows up in small decisions. A saved tip about going early puts that visit at opening instead of two in the afternoon. Dinner lands on the night you are already in that neighbourhood. Flights get priced from your airport, in your money, because it already knew both without asking.

Same request, different trip, because it started from different material. The reel you shared in January is still doing work in June.

Planning is not booking

Then the itinerary is done and the app waves goodbye, and you go and rebuild the entire thing in six browser tabs.

Some of the category has moved here. Mindtrip books flights inside the chat now, with real checkout. DocentPro books hotels without leaving the app. Credit where it is due, both of those are ahead of where most of this space is.

But neither of them can see what you saved, because neither of them takes the video in the first place. You get a booking flow attached to an itinerary that started from a blank prompt.

Dreamfare carries the trip through to stays, flights, activities, rail and eSIM, with your dates, your airport and your home currency already filled in. We hand you to the partner to pay rather than taking the card ourselves, so be clear on what that is: it is a checkout with your trip already in it, not a travel agency.

Where each app drops you

What they genuinely do better than us

If we only listed our own wins you should not trust the rest of the page.

Wanderlog has the best route optimizer in the category and it is not close. Give it eleven stops on a road trip and it will reorder them properly. Its collaborative editing is excellent and it is free. For a driving trip with four people arguing over the plan, use Wanderlog.

TripIt does one thing nobody else bothers with: it reads your inbox and turns confirmations into a clean day-of timeline, including the ones you booked before you ever heard of us. If your problem is the week you are already in, not the trip you are dreaming about, TripIt is the answer.

Mindtrip has the best in-chat booking in travel right now.

Plotline is more focused than we are. If you want a map of your saves and nothing else, our extra surface is weight you are not asking for.

Google Maps is where your list already lives, it is free forever and it works offline in a foreign country with no signal. That is a real advantage and we are not going to talk you out of it.

So who is this for

If you save travel videos constantly, if you have hundreds of them and the folder has become a graveyard with excellent lighting, and if you want the actual advice in them to survive long enough to change what you do on a Tuesday in June, that is the trip Dreamfare is built for.

It is in 34 languages, including the pricing and the planner, which matters more than it sounds if travel content in your language is not written in English.

You do not have to migrate anything. Do not go back through two years of saves, you will quit forty videos in and lose a Sunday. The next time a video shows you somewhere you actually want to go, share it into Dreamfare instead of tapping save. That one is enough to see whether any of this is true.

Have a look at real itineraries by destination to see where other people actually went, or start with one saved place.
